Namrup Police arrests 3 media persons for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers

Naharkatia: Three journalists have been arrested by Namrup police for allegedly extorting money from truck drivers. Bitu Boruah, Hiren Gogoi and Samiron Boruah have been accused of frequently stopping vehicles and asking drivers for documents saying that they were authorised by the DC, Dibrugarh to do so. They would frequently demand money from the drivers. The entire episode was video taped. An FIR was registered at Namrup based on an email received at the office of the DC, Dibrugarh. Legal action against the trio has being initiated.

Also involving the same trio, a suo moto case has been registered. This relates to a news report. In the news report, the identity of a minor victim was clearly shown which is an abject violation of the law. These three media persons have been send to Dibrugarh Jail today.
