Northeast Frontier Railway to begin operating 2 more special trains

Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) will begin operating two more special trains from the Northeast Indian region this week "for the benefit of the people of the Northeast region."

While one daily special train will start running between Howrah-Guwahati-Howrah with effect from October 5, 2020, another weekly special train will start running between Silchar-Trivandrum-Silchar from October 8.

The introduction of these special trains will enable passengers from a vast part of Assam and Northeast to avail the facility of train travel to various parts of the country.

The 02345 Howrah-Guwahati special will leave from Howrah at 3:50 pm daily with effect from October 5, 2020, and reach Guwahati at 10:05 am next day.

During the return journey, 02346 Guwahati-Howrah special will leave from Guwahati at 12:20 am daily with effect from October 6, 2020, to arrive in Howrah the next day at 5:25 am.

In the NFR area, there are 12 pairs of special trains that are currently in operation.

In a related development, the Indian railways have decided to operate 200 more special trains in order to manage the larger crowds who will be travelling during the festive season. The trains will run starting from October 15.

Railway Board Chairman and CEO V.K. Yadav on Thursday said that the national transporter is planning to introduce 200 special trains between October 15 and November 30 in order to cater to passenger rush.

According to sources, railways can also run clone trains on long routes if the demand increases. Indian Railways have started running clone trains to end the waiting list system.
