Northeast India to be the favourite tourist destination post-COVID-19: Union Minister Jitendra Singh

Guwahati: Union Minister of State for Development of North Eastern Region, Dr Jitendra Singh said that after the global pandemic ends, Northeast India will be everyone's favourite tourist and trade destination. People will prefer to holiday in the Northeast rather than any tourists spots abroad.

Singh was the Chief Guest of the 8th edition of the 'North East Festival.' Addressing the occasion, he said that with the support of Northeast's natural and human skill resources, it will help India to emerge as an economic power. The region will work as the 'New Engine' of economic growth, added Singh.

He further said that the region has emerged as an alternative to the European tourist destinations, as the region remained comparatively pandemic-free.

The Chief Minister of Assam, Sarbananda Sonowal also addressed the event. He said that the youth should be encouraged and they should learn to use the resources of the Northeast in the right way. On the other hand, Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb focussed on the need to promotes the Northeastern cuisines to the world.

Union Minister Singh hoped that the tourist will prefer Northeast India for its pristine natural beauty. The region will further leade India's growth story.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Atmanirbhar Abhiyan' could be propelled by the northeastern region by exploiting the vast untapped natural resource of the Northeast. This will further add to PM Modi's 'Vocal for Local.'

The import duty has been increased by 25 per cent on raw bamboo items by the central government. This will further help the domestic bamboo industries like furniture, handicrafts and 'Agarbatti.'

The development in terms of road, rail and air connectivity will further facilitate the movement of goods and people across the country. Singh said that the youth of the region will play a crucial role in taking the region to greater economic heights.
