GUWAHATI: In the past 24 hours, rain and hailstorms have pounded various areas of Assam, Meghalaya, and Arunachal Pradesh, even while a "yellow warning" is still in effect for the three northeastern states for the next four days due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over east Assam and its surrounding area. On Tuesday evening, a massive hailstorm took place in Dibrugarh town of Upper Assam. The severe hailstorm that hit Upper Assam's Dibrugarh town on Tuesday evening wreaked havoc, uprooting trees that fell onto moving vehicles. While no casualties have been reported thus far, power outages have been reported in many areas of Dibrugarh. Taking on the micro-blogging site Twitter, Indian Meteorological Department wrote “A Cyclonic circulation is likely to develop over Southeast Bay Of Bengal around 06 May 2023. Under its influence, a low-Pressure Area is likely to form over the same region during subsequent 48 hours.” On the other hand, Guwahati experienced light showers on Tuesday evening, which provided some relief from the high temperatures. Hailstorms struck the Nagaon area in central Assam over the past 24 hours. Indian Metrological Department issued a warning a few days ago regarding the possibility of thunderstorms in the ensuing three to four days. Also, 5-centimetre rainfall in the past 24 hours was recorded in Meghalaya's Cherrapunji and Assam's Kheronighat, according to IMD on Tuesday. Arunachal Pradesh had mild to moderate rainfall between 8.30 on Monday and 8.30 on Tuesday, as did a small number of locations in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, and Arunachal Pradesh. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicts that on May 3, there will be thunderstorms and a lot of rain in the northwest states. West Bengal, Sikkim, Uttarakhand, Telangana, and Delhi are just a few of the regions In Goa and Tamil Nadu, it rained a lot on Monday. The primary cause was identified as the western disturbance. Significant rainfall is anticipated in particular for Manipur, Meghalaya, and Nagaland until May 5. From May 2 to May 4, Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and Meghalaya are expected to receive rain. On May 1, Guwahati City and the adjacent areas of Nalbari, Dhemaji, Rangia, Nagarbera, and Mangaldai saw heavy rain and thunderstorms. However, the next 4 days are expected to be cloudy in Guwahati.
