GANGTOK: In East Sikkim region on Thursday, a school bus carrying 23 pupils from the preparatory school overturned, injuring at least 26 people, according to the police.

About 40 kilometres from the state capital Gangtok, the bus flipped at Singbel, a village on the outskirts of Makha in the East Sikkim region.

When the accident occurred, the bus was carrying play-school workers, including teachers and other staff members, as well as youngsters.

The tragic incident happened in Sikkim's Makha district, close to Gangtok.The accident happened about 40 km from Sikkim's capital city of Gangtok.

At least 26 individuals on the bus, including the driver, two staff members, and 23 pupils, suffered injuries as a result of the collision.

Thirteen of the 26 injured people are said to be in critical medical condition.The majority of the youngsters who were hurt in the accident are in the 3-5 year old age group.The hurt people are now being treated at the STNM hospital in Gangtok, Sikkim.

The bus overturned at Singbel on the outskirts of Makha in East Sikkim district, about 40 km from state capital Gangtok. Of the 26 people, 23 were students, a driver and two were school staff, police said.

The other injured people were being treated in Singtam hospital, according to the police, where they are also receiving medical attention.There have been no recorded casualties so far. So far, three pupils have been labelled as critical.

The pupils attended a Makha elementary school for prep children, according to reports.

In a tragic turn of events, a bus from Ranchi's St. Xavier's College that was carrying at least 22 students was involved in a serious accident in Gangtok last year. It has been discovered that the pupils were travelling to Siliguri in West Bengal as part of an excursion. The 7th-mile area near Ranipool is where the disaster happened. The road accident is thought to have been caused by a braking malfunction.

A school bus last year overturned in the Noney area of Manipur, killing at least six pupils and a teacher. In the mountainous area's Old Cachar Road, the bus was attempting to make a steep turn when the tragedy happened.

While two more were pronounced dead after being taken to the hospital, authorities stated five kids died at the scene. Twenty additional children were hurt in the mishap.
