Sikkim capital Gangtok and its periphery selected in 25+5 SDGs

Guwahati: Sikkim Government has announced that Gangtok city and its periphery, have been selected in 25+5 SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals) cities to fulfil the SDGs goals and targets by 2025.

As per reports, the United Nations Global Sustainability Index Institute (UNGSII), in collaboration with the United Nations Sustainable Development Solution Network (UNSDSN) and others are SDG related partners.

Notably, Shri S.D. Dhakal, IAS, Secretary, Chief Minister's Office (CMO), introduced Gangtok city in the inaugural address through virtual mode on the second Annual SDG Champions Conference held globally today.

Following the deliberation by Shri Dhakal, Prof. Paul Barach, SDG3 Clinical Lead from Maryland University, USA, Dr Charles Batte from Makerere University, Uganda, Prof. Peter Crino, Department of Neurology from the University of Maryland, USA and Ms. Manuela Boyle from Australia also shared their views and opinions during the event.

Sikkim Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang on behalf of the Government expressed his gratitude towards UNGSII for including Gangtok city as one of the 25+5 SDGs cities globally.

It is to be mentioned that twenty-five cities along with five indigenous communities will be selected for this international initiative to help achieve SDGs by 2025.
