Gangtok: A jawan of Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) was apprehended in Sikkim for allegedly raping a 13-year-old girl at his official quarters.
As per reports, the jawan raped the girl multiple times at his official quarters in Rangpo Town in Pakyong district following which she became pregnant.
Reportedly, the girl's mother in her complaint alleged that a teenaged local boy also sexually assaulted her for months. On basis of the complaint, police have detained the boy as well.
Further in her complaint, the girl's mother alleged that the paramilitary personnel, an assistant sub-inspector, raped her multiple times at his residential quarters in Raj Bhavan's Winter Camp in Rangpo since April.
Following the complaint, the police swung into action and booked Jawan who is said to a native of Dharchula in Uttarakhand's Pithoragarh district, under the Protection of Children From Sexual Offences (POSCO) Act's section 4 ((punishment for penetrative sexual assault) and section 6 (punishment for aggravated penetrative sexual assault).
Meanwhile, police are investigating the case and trying to figure out if the local boy and ITBP jawan had any connection.
In July this year, Basistha Police arrested an army jawan for allegedly raping a minor girl in the Basistha area.
According to sources, the accused jawan, Prince Pandey, allegedly raped the daughter of a havildar stationed at the camp.
Pandey allegedly committed the crime when the girl was alone in her house, sources said.
The police arrested Pandey and registered a case against him under relevant sections of the POCSO Act.
On the hand in June, a jawan of Assam Rifles was sentenced to 10 years of imprisonment by a special court on June 3, on the charges of criminal trespassing, kidnapping, and attempting to gang rape a minor girl and he has been booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO).
