AGARTALA: Tripura CM Biplab Kumar Deb has launched a door to door campaign to create awareness on coronavirus. Deb distributed leaflets among people living in areas bordering Kailashahar at Unakoti district.
The Tripura Chief Minister also interacted with local people to let them know how to prevent the spread of this deadly disease.
He said, “There are so far no positive cases on this contagious disease being reported in Tripura. But people need to be careful and maintain cleanliness in every step. He further said the government is working carefully to create awareness among people on coronavirus.”
The state government of Tripura had announced the closure of schools, colleges and other educational institutions such as cinema halls, swimming pools, and gymnasiums from March 17 to March 31 for precautionary measures.
“Tripura shares border with Bangladesh and some cases have been reported from the neighboring country. Keeping this in mind, the BSF has also been put on alert for intensifying vigil along the border,” he said.
Four Indian northeastern states of Tripura, Meghalaya, Mizoram, and Assam shares 1,880 km border with Bangladesh, while Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland, and Arunachal Pradesh share a 1,640-km unfenced border with Myanmar.
Earlier this year a boy from Tripura had died in a Malaysian hospital after he was reportedly infected by the Novel Coronavirus. However, Tripura Health and Family Welfare Director Radha Debbarma said the government has no information about the youth’s death due to coronavirus infection in Malaysia.
Following advisories of the Union Health and Family Welfare Ministry, all State Governments and Central agencies, including the Airport Authority of India (AAI), have set up special screening counters and desks.
So far India has reported three deaths from coronavirus. The disease originated in Wuhan in China after which it spread around the world.
