Agartala: District Magistrates of all the eight districts of Tripura have selected 18 locations where the Reang refugees can be settled. The State Government is examining all the pros and cons of the proposals before giving the final approval.
Education Minister Ratan Lal Nath said altogether 36,261 persons belonging to 4,874 families are now residing in the camps at Kanchanpur and Panisagar sub-divisions. Out of these, 300 families don’t have any document to prove their bona fide.
He said the rehabilitation process of these families will be initiated after the finalization of the sites. A maximum of three hundred families will be rehabilitated in one location.
Apart from the land for settlement, these refugees will get benefits as per the package declared by the Central Government earlier. These include Rs 4 lakh per family in fixed deposit, Rs 1.5 lakh for construction of the house and free ration for two years.
Meanwhile, the refugees who took shelter at Ananda Bazar police station have returned to their homes and the government has decided to give them compensation for the loss incurred during the trouble.
