AGARTALA: A 28-year-old youth was convicted by Special Judge POCSO (Protection of Children from of Sexual Offence) of West Bengal after finding him guilty of sexually abusing a minor boy of eight years old.

An advocate of the case Pulak Debnath informed that the convicted person is punished with 20 years of rigorous imprisonment along with a penalty of Rupees 5000 for committing such a heinous crime.

The accused is convicted arrested on charges of various IPC sections and as per the POCSO Act stated Advocate Pulak Debnath.

The incident took place on 28 August in the year 2017 in the Kathalatali area located in the Agartala city of Tripura.

The accused was identified as Tapash Das alias Tanu Das, a resident of the Kathalatali area that comes under the Amtali police station of Agartala.

While providing details about the incident that happened back in 2017, the advocate said that the convict Tapash Das had allegedly sexually assaulted a minor of 8 years old who was residing in the same locality where Tapash house is located.

The lawyer added that the accused person had forced himself on the minor boy which resulted in the boy getting critically injured.

After the medical investigation and after conducting various medical tests, it was found that the victim had sustained severe injuries on his private parts.

The parents of the minor boy filed an FIR at the Amtali police station after getting informed about the incident. The police then initiated a detailed investigation about the case from 24 January 2019 and filed a charge sheet.

The court has finally sentenced the accused to 20 years of continuous imprisonment after hearing all arguments and after going through all the evidence. The court has also imposed a cash fine of Rupees 5,000.

The court order reads that Tapas Das is punished under IPC section 377 and section 6 of the POCSO Act for the offense committed by him.

The order also stated that if in any case, the convict fails for the payment of fine he will have to continue imprisonment for 2 more months.
