AGARTALA: In the run up to the crucial Assembly Elections in Tripura, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma is on a day long visit to the poll bound state.

During his visit, the convenor of North East Democratic Alliance (NEDA) will be addressing BJP's Booth Vijay Abhiyan at the Rabindra Satabarshiki Bhawan here. This visit of Sarma is seen as largely crucial for boosting the morale of the party workers ahead of the elections next year.

Top leaders of state BJP unit, led by Tripura CM Dr. Manik Saha, accorded a warm welcome to CM Sarma upon his arrival at the Maharaja Bir Bikram Airport in Agartala earlier today.

Besides attending the booth level meet, the Assam CM is likely to visit the Tripureshwari Temple and Santi Kali Ashram during the day long visit.

Elections for the 60-member strong Tripura Legislative Assembly will take place in the first half of 2023. The BJP, in its bid to return back to power, is planning to go forward with a hectic door-to-door campaigning with the state's first BJP-led government, as announced by CM Dr. Manik Saha.

It may be recalled here that Former Uttar Pradesh minister, Dr. Mahendra Singh has been appointed as the saffron party's in- charge for the state, while Rajya Sabha MP Samir Oraon has assumed charge as the Deputy-in-charge. This has come as a well thought out move as it was under Mahendra Singh that the first BJP led government was formed in Assam back in 2016.

Along with its major ally Indigenous People's Front of Tripura or the IPFT, the BJP uprooted the two decade and a half long Left Front government in the state in 2018. The BJP managed to win in 36 seats then, with its ally the IPFT winning in 8.

Hence, with the sounding of the poll bugle by Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma in the state, it is sure that the political atmosphere in Tripura will enter into an intense phase in the coming months.
