NORTH TRIPURA: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a young man with two pistols and magazines from a Silchar-Agartala bound train while it was stopped at the Dharmanagar railway station in North Tripura district. The incident took place on Thursday night.
The GRP while conducting their routine checking became suspicious of the young man’s movement in the D4 coach of the train. Accordingly, the GRP team searched and recovered two pistols, one Russian-made and another German-made from a bag that the accused was carrying.
The arrested youth was identified as Bisik Chakma aged 37 years and belonging to Korbuk in the Gomti district of Tripura after being detained and interrogated revealed that he bought the two pistols from Dimapur for Rs 85 thousand, and were meant to be sold to a person named Suman Chakma in Bangladesh.
Both the Railway Police Force and Government Railway Police are also working hard to ensure the safety of the passengers as well as the general public. Previously, Shankar Dutta, a notorious drug peddler was arrested during a joint raid in Vivek Express at Lumding Railway Station by Lumding Railway Security Force and GRP on Sunday night. The railway security personnel also recovered 430 grams of suspected narcotics substance like heroin from the possession of the arrested drug peddler, sources said. The worth of the recovered narcotics in the market would be more than Rs 80 lakh. The railway security personnel also arrested 8 thieves who were allegedly involved in stealing cash or other belongings of the passengers of various running trains. The security personnel also recovered cash, 9 mobile handsets as well as some stolen items from their possession.
According to sources, the arrested thieves have been identified as Dilwar Hussain, Ashad Ali, Masuk Hussain, Newton Das, Murshid Ali, Bipul Das and Anowar Hussain. They all hail from Nagaon and Dimapur.
