Guwahati: Tripura police have registered a case against a Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawan for allegedly raping a 17-year-old girl several times over the past few months.
The incident took place at a village of Kailasahar in Unakoti district of Tripura.
The incident came to light after the parents discovered that the girl was seven months pregnant.
Later, the victim informed her parents about the incident.
As per reports, the CRPF jawan is currently posted at 124 Battalion located in Shalbagan, around 10 km from Agartala.
"A complaint was made on Sunday evening against the 35-year-old CRPF jawan for raping the minor several times in the past few months making her seven months pregnant. We have filed an FIR but the accused is yet to be arrested," Rinki Debbarma, officer-in-charge of Kailashshar women police station, said.
The 17-year-old rape survivor said that the accused is a neighbour of the victim. When she became pregnant with the accused's child, he refused to accept the baby, she said.
Based on a written complaint by the girl, the police registered a case under Section 417, 376 (c) (m) and 506 of the Indian Penal Code and Section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
"We have written a letter to the commandant of CRPF 124 battalion informing him about the incident. We are waiting for his reply in this regard till Wednesday. If we do not receive any reply from the battalion, we will decide the next course of action," Debbarma stated
It is to be mentioned that earlier, on July 30, Tripura police arrested 10 persons accused of raping a 17-year-old girl in Teliamura subdivision under Khowai district.
