Agartala: When many people are recounting the horrors of Fani and many others are assessing the extent of damage, the devastating cyclone brought a smile in the face of farmers in many areas especially among the hilly people who solely depend on Jhum cultivation.

In Chawmanu areas the Jhum cultivators were unable to sow seeds as hills were totally dry as there was no rain for a quite long time. Immediately after the Fani all the tribal villages suddenly become busy as the people were rushing to their Jhum fields.

Chawmanu was no exception as the same reaction was found from all over the state. A good rain in this season is very important for the farmers especially the Jhumias as it is the time for sawing seeds. Similar reports arriving from Bamutia area of West district where farmers were unable to plough the field for paddy or vegetables as there were no rain for last few months.
