Agartala: Use of Point of Sale machine is going to be compulsory for all wholesale dealers trading on fertilizer and pesticides in Tripura. Senior government officials recently made this clear in dealers meet at Agartala.

A major part of the fertilizer and pesticides are now being distributed through government channels like stores maintained by village level workers of the Agriculture department. This system has proved to be faulty and there were many allegations of corruptions too.

Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb recently made it clear that this old system will be totally eliminated and the entire business of fertilizer and pesticide will be handed over to private hands. He said this is necessary for proper distribution of the items, ensuring availability to the farmers and bringing transparency in the trade.

The dealers meet was organized to apprise the dealers about their role in the new system and how transparency will be maintained. Officials in the meeting made it clear that henceforth, every transaction on fertilizer and pesticide are to be recorded and for that purpose, use of PoS machines is going to be mandatory.

In a bid to prevent any kind of smuggling or pilferage, the new system has made it compulsory to upload the stock position in the godown of the dealer every day.

Instruction has been given to cancel dealership of the persons who obtained license but not trading regularly.

Once the new system comes into force, the jurisdiction of a dealer will remain confined within his district and he will not be authorized to sell fertilizer to farmers from outside his district.
