Agartala: The northern districts of Tripura are suffering from shortage of LPG cylinders as the drivers of the LPG carrying trucks have refused to come to Tripura after a series of attacks on them in the hilly ranges. The attackers have snatched cylinders and in several cases, the drivers and their assistants were subjected to torture.
Such incidents were going on for the last several weeks but the issue turned volatile after miscreants stopped a cylinder carrying truck at SK Para area under Khowai district. They snatched away four cylinders and beat the driver and his assistant.
As soon as the report spread, the drivers of the vehicles in Silchar decided not to come to Tripura unless their security is fully ensured. The matter has been taken up in various levels but a movement of gas carrying trucks is yet to resume.
Meanwhile, a severe crisis of LPG gas cylinders has cropped up in different parts of the State especially in North, Unakoti, Dhalai and Khowai districts where cylinders is being supplied from a Silchar bottling plant.
The matter has been taken up by the Food and Civil Supply department and police authorities are also taking steps. Official sources are expecting that the dispute will be over shortly.
