Sipahijala(Tripura): Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb launched the bamboo earthen lamps ahead of Diwali, festival of lights.

The chief minister in the programme, also launched organic sugarcane jaggery and homemade pineapple jam, all of these prepared by the Self-help group members.

The CM explained how the bamboo matures fast and carries the potential to maximise employment and income especially in areas of small scale industries and the state government is focusing on this sector. Their initiative was highly appreciated by CM Deb as it fulfilled PM Narendra Modi's vision of 'Atma Nirbhar Bharat' and his emphasis on the bamboo sector in his monthly radio talk 'Maan Ki Baat'.

CM Deb said that he was happy to know that the PM's vision has reached the corners of the remotest villages in Tripura.

Sugarcane jaggery and pineapple jam were created by using locally available raw products which fetches a good profit to the local farmers.

Purnima Nandi, member of SHG said her area is popular for pineapple production however, due to the lockdown, business was running low.

All SHG members and pineapple farmers approached the BDO (Block Development Officer) who recommended producing pineapple jam which would directly benefit the growers and the producers. "We have sold more than 300 bottles of pineapple jam already," Purnima Nandi said.

Majority of SHGs are run by women in Tripura and National Rural Livelihood Mission is playing a vital role in empowering SHGs by promoting self-employment in remote areas.
