New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has said that the news circulating on social media of vandalism at a mosque in Gomati district of Tripura is fake and is a ''complete misrepresentation of facts''.
''There have been news reports that have been circulating that a mosque in Kakraban area of Gomati district in Tripura has been damaged and vandalized. These news reports are fake and are a complete misrepresentation of facts,'' MHA said in a statement on Saturday.
The Ministry also asserted that there is no report of simple or grievous injury or rape or death of any person in these incidents as alleged in some social media posts.
Requesting people not to be misguided by such fake reports, the Ministry urged people to maintain clam.
''For instance, in Maharashtra there have been reports of violence and unsavoury statements that are aimed at disturbing peace and harmony, based on fake news regarding Tripura. This is very concerning and it is urged that peace is maintained at all costs,'' it added
It also said that the mosque in Dargabazar area of Kakraban has not been damaged and the Tripura Police in Gomati district is working to maintain peace and tranquillity.
At least 18 police officials, including three officers, were injured when the communal violence in Maharashtra's Malegaon and Nanded district went out of control.
In the wake of Tripura incident, the bandh was called in these districts but on Friday it spiralled out of control, as protestors started pelting stones at shops and police.
Reportedly, in Malegaon district, 10 policemen, including over a dozen people were injured. Two policemen were immediately rushed to the nearest hospital following the injury. However, their condition is stable now.
So far in this regard, 20 FIRs have also been registered in the matter and the state has made an appeal to maintain peace.
