Agartala: The decision to rehabilitate over 35,000 Reang refugees in Tripura were hailed by all the political parties and organizations of Mizoram. The general people also expressed happiness and in several areas they organized rallies to celebrate the development. They also conveyed gratitude to Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb for settling a two-decade-old problem.
The Mizo National Front welcomed this decision and the BJP Mizoram State committee through a press release thanked the Centre and the State Governments of Tripura for bringing an end to a long- standing problem. The statement accused the former Left Front government of Tripura for the delay in settling the issue. It said the Mizoram government repeatedly came out with various proposals which the Left Front government was not ready to hear.
The Mizoram Pradesh Congress Committee also hailed the decision and said that this could have been solved long ago. The CPM-led Government ruled in Tripura for 25 years but they were not ready to accept any proposal from the then Mizoram Government, hence things were not solved.
President of MZP, B Bhanlaltana and the Mizo Student Association also felt it was a practical agreement that removed many roadblocks. They also appreciated royal scion Pradyut Kishore Debbarma for the initiative he has taken to solve the problem.
