Ratan Lal Nath Calls For Boosting Co-operative Societies in Tripura

AGARTALA: Education Minister of Tripura Ratan Lal Nath has urged the co-operative societies in the State to play an effective role in development of the State especially in improving the economic status of rural people.

Having been associated with the co-operative movement in the State for a long time, Nath said that the first co-operative society in the State was formed at Kanchanpur and since than many co-operatives came up but most of them failed to play a significant role in the society.

He was addressing a gathering after inaugurating the annual general meeting of the Mohonpur Primary Marketing Co-operative Society which is within his Assembly constituency. He appreciated the role of the society and urged the members of the respective managing committee to examine as to how its activities can be enlarged and more shareholders included.

Explaining the ways how a co-operative society can play a constructive role in the society besides bringing to fruition the dream of Mahatma Gandhi and the present government, the Minister called for maximum stress on the co-operative movement. The Managing Director of the Mohonpur Primary Marketing Co-operative Society, Haradhan Das while submitting the annual statement also said that the society has been involved in multifarious activities like ration shop, consumer centre and other activities in addition to lending for various purposes.
