KOKRAJHAR: Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma, the chairman of the Tipraha Indigenous People’s Regional Progressive Alliance (TIPRA) or TIPRA Motha party of Tripura, stepped down from the post of chairman of the party on Monday. This comes a day after he announced he was stepping down as chairman of the party but assured the indigenous tribal people of Tripura that he would continue to serve the TIPRA Motha party as a warrior. In a tweet, the 48-year-old Debbarma said, "As my 2-year term as the chairman of the TIPRA Motha Party comes to an end, I am no longer seeking reappointment, and as per our amended constitution, the president of the party, Bijay Kr. Hrangkhawl, will be the supreme steering post in the party and will continue to lead the party as the president of TIPRA Motha, and I will now be serving the party as a party member and a warrior. I thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to serve the party and the community. I don't believe in family politics; hence, no member of my family will be taking any post in the organization. Let's work for the movement and not individual positions". He called upon the people to remember ‘Thansa’; unity is a must. He also said that as long as blood flows in his body, he will remain a warrior of TIPRA Motha.

Debbarma said he was a warrior of the party and would continue to fight for his ideology of Thansa (unity) and greater Tipraland. "I am not leaving TIPRA Motha and want to build the party from the grassroots level," he told a press briefing after stepping down. It may be mentioned that Pradyot Kishore Manikya Debbarma floated the TIPRA Motha Party in February 2021, and his party is the 2nd largest party in Tripura. He said, Manik Sarkar is no longer the head of the CPI (M) in Tripura, but he has not quit the party. Similarly, Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi are no longer the presidents of the Congress, but they have not left the party, and Amit Shah is also not the national president of the BJP, but he is not quitting the party. He also said he would remain a warrior of TIPRA Motha. He further said the Election Commission's guidelines don't allow a party to have a chairman and president, and he will never allow family politics, so none of the royal family members will lead the party but will work as warriors.
