AGARTALA: Tipra Motha, the much-discussed local party from Tripura has decided to take the crowdfunding way to meet the expenses for the upcoming assembly polls in Tripura. This is the first time that the party is contesting in assembly polls on its own.

The Tipra Motha Party has already released a list of 42 candidates for the 60-member Tripura Assembly. Out of these 20 are tribal and 22 are non-tribal seats. The party had previously won the elections of the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council held in 2021. The region under this autonomous council accounts for two-thirds of the total area and 20 of the total 60 seats, and a massive majority of the tribal population.

Leader of the party and member of the royal family of Tripura, Pradyot Bikram Manikya Deb Barman mentioned this decision over Twitter. He mentioned that his is a small party which aims to maintain complete transparency so whoever is interested in making donations can do the same to the party account.

Barman mentioned, "We are a new party and refrained from any alliance. We are not supported by big businessmen. We are seeking support from the well-wishers. If we need to change the system, we need to tell people where the fund is coming from and by opening the account it is our endeavour for transparency."

The party had earlier held meetings with the Bharatiya Janata Party to discuss a possible alliance between the two, but it turned out to be a failure. CPIM and Congress had also approached Barman to join the current opposition parties in the coming elections which did not work out as well.

The party's main demand for a Tiprasa state has been an election agenda for some years now, but Barman had accused the Centre of not looking into the interests of the indigenous people of the state and ignoring the demand.

The party leader also said," There cannot be any compromise on the demand. We went to Delhi and listened to what they had to say, had we not gone they would have said we did not go despite being invited. They have not given anything in writing. I want to say there will be no alliance in this election. We will fight this election and fight to defeat those who are against our demand."
