AGARTALA:

The Tipraha Indigenous Progressive Regional Alliance or TIPRA Motha, founded in 2019 by Tripura's 186th Titular Head Kirit Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma Bahadur, intends to run in the next municipal elections as well as the Tripura Assembly elections in 2023.

Pradyot Deb Barma, the founder of the party as well as its chairman, informed about his intentions to contest the municipal and Tripura Assembly elections to media persons in the state's capital of Agartala.

The TIPRA party has recently emerged victorious in the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) elections. In the TTAADC elections on April 6 (results announced on April 10), the 'TIPRA Motha' won 18 of the 28 elective seats (two nominated by members), the BJP won nine, and one seat went to an independent candidate. The 'TIPRA Motha' (tribal unity) led by Deb Barman was created just a few months ago, combining different local tribal-based parties and leaders, as well as members of other parties, and wrote a new political history by capturing the 30-member TTAADC.

"If we have to fight for greater Tipraland, then we can't ignore some parts of Agartala like Abhaynagar, Nandan Nagar etc. We are also thinking to fight the upcoming urban body elections," stated Deb Barma.

"I have clearly said that we have to work for the indigenous party for which, we have to contest the urban elections and the Tripura Assembly elections," he added.

The royal Tiprasi Prince further stated that his party will emerge victorious in 26 out of the 60 Vidhan Sabha constituencies in his state. He also stated that the regional party has abandoned Agartala and that the people of Tiprasa are suffering as a result.

"Wherever Tiprasa people are living we will fight for them. We are not fighting against any community. We will fight for our rights", said the royal scion.

Tipra Motha leaders stated that their goal is to create block committees in Agartala, followed by ward committees. Agartala city committee and city advisory will also be formed by the regional party, informed Deb Barma.

"We already have block observers throughout the state and will soon form block-wide committees," he stated.

"Today, we have come together to hold a meeting at the primary level. We will work for the overall development," Deb Barma added.
