AGARTALA: As many as ten fresh Covid-19 cases have been detected in Tripura, with health authorities likely to issue a health advisory sooner than later.

Dr. Radha Debbarma, Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine, Tripura, informed that the health department has detected ten Covid-19 cases so far, with five cases recorded from Unakoti district, four cases from West District, and one case from North district. The North district is of importance as it shares a border with Assam and Mizoram.

The Director of Family Welfare and Preventive Medicine further added that, with the increase recorded in Covid-19 cases, testing for people coming from outside the state has been ramped up by the health department.

Dr. Debbarma said testing has been increased to identify positive cases. The main focus of the health department is to send all positive patients to home isolation, and patients with co- morbidities will be referred to hospitals. Soon, the use of masks will be mandated and maintenance of social distancing enforced, she said.

She also informed that samples of all the patients have been collected and sent to Agartala Government Medical College for whole genome sequencing to ascertain the variant that has infected them.

At present, India is experiencing a surge in COVID-19 cases, believed to be driven by the Omicron sub variant XBB.1.16 known as Arcturus.

Meanwhile, as the Covid-19 cases continue to rise, the state health authorities are reportedly closely monitoring the situation and all necessary measures to contain the spread of the virus are being taken. The health department’s is mulling a health advisory, which is expected to provide guidelines and instructions to the public on Covid-19 prevention measures. It will include the use of masks, maintaining of social distancing, and following hygiene protocols.

The state government and the health department, in particular, are urging the people to cooperate and adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines to ensure the safety and well-being of everyone in Tripura. There is emphasis on regular testing, contact tracing, and strict adherence to preventive measures to control the spread of the virus.
