AGARTALA: The new government of Tripura took oath in the presence of several dignitaries on Wednesday. After the swearing-in ceremony was successfully completed, the Union Home Minister also met with the top brass of the local TIPRA Motha Party.

Several dignitaries including the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, the Union Home Minister Amit Shah and the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party Jagat Prakash Nadda attended the event held in the capital of Tripura. Dr Manik Saha took charge as the chief minister of the Northeastern state along with several other elected members in different portfolios.

The Bharatiya Janata Party was able to secure a majority in the state elections which were held on February 16 and the results of the same came out on March 2 and thus forming the government again. The local TIPRA Motha Party which took part in the state assembly elections for the very first time managed to secure the second-highest number of seats in the polls.

The leader of the TIPRA Motha Party, Pradyot Manikya Deb Barma, had mentioned that they will be forming the opposition and not go with the Congress or the Communist Party of India (Marxist) after the results were declared.

The Union Home Minister of the country met with the chief of the TIPRA Motha Party Pradyot Kishore Debbarma in the state guest house on Wednesday. Bharatiya Janata Party’s National President Jagat Prakash Nadda and the reelected chief minister of the state, Dr Manik Saha were also present.

One of the key agendas of the TIPRA Motha Party was the creation of a separate Greater Tipraland. Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had mentioned that the Bharatiya Janata Party is ready to agree with all the demands of the TIPRA Motha except for the demand of a separate state.
