AGARTALA: One of the first candidates to be declared winner in the state of Tripura was the Chief Minister in the previous term of the Bharatiya Janata Party-led state assembly.

Dr Manik Saha has been declared as the winner of the Bordowali Constituency after the counting was over for the home constituency. The winning margin was about 800 votes according to the reports. The nearest competitor turned out to be the Congress candidate of the constituency, Ashish Kumar Saha.

Dr Manik Saha who is a dentist by education took to politics and replaced the previous chief minister of the state of Tripura. Biplab Kumar Deb was removed from the position of the Chief Minister and given a portfolio in the central government just a year ahead of the polling date in the state. Many competing political parties had alleged about the involvement of Biplab Kumar Deb in multiple scams in the state.

According to reports, Dr Manik Saha took time out to visit the Tripura Sundari Maa Temple to seek divine blessings amid the counting of votes. The Bharatiya Janata Party’s national spokesperson Sambit Patra also accompanied Dr Manik Saha to the temple.

Dr Manik Saha was the lone representative of the state of Tripura in the upper house of the Indian parliament before he was called back to the state to serve as the Chief Minister of the state. He had participated and won in the assembly by-polls in the Town Bordowali constituency and was sworn as the chief minister in 2022.

The Bharatiya Janata Party is leading in more than 30 more constituencies in the ongoing countings. It is important to note that a total of a minimum of 31 seats is necessary to take the majority and form government in the state of Tripura.

Counting is also undergoing for the assembly constituencies of Meghalaya and Nagaland alongside Tripura.
