Tripura CM : BJP govt has helped farmers to export their produce

Agartala: While addressing a gathering of farmers on Wednesday, Chief Minister of Tripura, Biplab Deb had said that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government in Tripura had helped the Tripura's farmers to export two of their produce - pineapple and lemon, which are no known by the people of India and abroad.

He said that the farmers have been earning crores of rupees ever since the BJP government had come into power in March 2018 and had taken steps to enrich the export business of valued products abroad besides supplying them to other Indian states.

Minister Deb had said that under the PM-Kisan scheme, each of the 2.22 lakh farmers of Tripura have received Rs 6,000 annually and so far Rs 229 crore has come to the state by the exports.

The Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-Kisan) Scheme was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February last year to help provide income support to all landholder farmer families across the country with cultivable land.

Under this scheme, Rs 6,000 per year is released in three monthly instalments of Rs 2,000 each directly into the bank accounts of the beneficiaries.

He also emphasised how after the BJP government had come into power in the state of Tripura, it had been purchasing rice from the farmers' doorsteps by providing the Minimum Support Price (MSP) of Rs 1,750 per quintal.

Meanwhile, the MSP has increased to Rs 1,815 per quintal and the rate is expected to raise soon.

"Our government removed the middlemen system which existed earlier, badly affecting the interests of the farmers. So far, 48,716 MT of rice has been procured under the MSP, benefitting 27,735 farmers who collectively received Rs 86.65 crore," said Minister Deb.

The Tripura CM also said that the previous Communist Party of India- Marxist- led (CPI-M) Left Front government had done politics with the innocent farmers and kept them deprived in all sectors of life.
