Agartala: The Tripura government has decided to send all the excess staff of public sector undertakings to various government departments as per requisition with an aim to utilize the services of the employees sitting idle for years. The State Cabinet has taken a decision in this regard and asked all the PSUs to send the list of excess employees at their disposal.

Ratan Lal Nath, Education Minister, told reporters that many of the PSUs under the State government are running in heavy loss and some of them are hardly delivering anything.

The total number of employees in the PSUs are 6,885 out of which 49 employees are already deputed to various departments. “If the excess staff are shifted to other departments, it will reduce the burden of the PSU and at the same time, the departments will also get extra hands to discharge their duties.

The 12 PSU under the State government are Tripura Road Transport Corporation, Jute Mill, Urban Transport Corporation, Tripura Small Industries Development Corporation, Tea Development Corporation, Tourism Development Corporation, Tripura Industrial Development Corporation, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Limited, Tripura Forest Development Plantation Corporation, Horticulture Corporation, Tripura Rubber Plantation Corporation and Tripura Handicrafts and Handloom Corporation.

The minister rejected the possibility of absorption of the employees in the department where they will be sent on deputation. He said all the employees will be reverted to their parent PSU six months ahead of their retirement and they will go to retirement from their own PSU.

The minister said during the long 25-years of the Left Front rule, there was no attempt to activate the PSUs and the only task of the employees were to attend party processions and meetings. The present government has decided to change the scenario and to activate the PSUs.
