Tripura: Government to Procure Additional 80MW of Power for Durga Puja

AGARTALA: Tripura is gearing up for Durga Puja by arranging an additional 80MW of electricity to ensure a seamless power supply during the festival, announced Power Minister Ratan Lal Nath. He shared this information after a review meeting held in the state capital on Friday.

This year, the anticipated power demand during the Durga Puja days is estimated to reach around 380MW, Nath disclosed. In comparison, the state's peak-hour demand during Durga Puja in 2021 was 327MW, which increased to 332MW in 2022.

Nath highlighted the Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd's (TSECL) proactive measures to guarantee uninterrupted power supply during Durga Puja, saying, "Like in previous years, Tripura State Electricity Corporation Ltd (TSECL) has taken steps to provide uninterrupted power during Durga Puja. We expect the demand to be around 380MW this year during the festival days."

The state presently has a power capacity of 300MW, and to meet the increased demand during Durga Puja, TSECL will secure an additional 80MW, he added. Nath also indicated the possibility of reducing power exports to Bangladesh to ensure an ample power supply during the festival. Currently, the state exports 100MW of electricity to its neighboring country on a daily basis.

Nath urged Durga Puja organizers to accurately assess their power requirements and apply for temporary power connections, assuring that TSECL would address their needs. To prevent a recurrence of the tragic Kumarghat incident, TSECL will deploy officials along the procession routes. "We urge the Puja committees to inform TSECL about the routes of immersion processions so that precautionary measures could be taken," he stressed.

On June 28, a tragic incident occurred in Kumarghat, Unakoti district, where ten devotees were electrocuted to death when a metal chariot carrying Lord Jagannath came into contact with a high-power transmission line.

Meanwhile, Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha on Thursday said that school infrastructure is being developed at every corner of the State on a priority basis as part of the State government's commitment towards imparting quality education. Addressed a gathering at Kalacherra HS School ground in North Tripura, Tripura CM Saha said," State government has been following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of laying emphasis on the importance of education for a stronger nation." "School infrastructure is being developed at every corner of the State on a priority basis as part of the State government's commitment towards imparting quality education. The transformation in the education system that came through our continuous efforts is now visible everywhere in the state," CM added.
