Agartala: Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb on Sunday announced that his government will introduce a cultural award in the name of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar.

While speaking to the reporters after paying floral tributes to the portrait on Sunday, Deb said that he can't take the decisions unilaterally. There is a department for cultural affairs that looks after such things.

''Certainly, the matter will be discussed in appropriate forums as well as in the state cabinet before any concrete decision as there is a public sentiment associated with the singer,'' he added.

While recalling his childhood memories, he said,'' I grew up listening to the classic duets by Lata Ji and Kishore Kumar. These songs were either composed by SD Barman or RD Barman''.

''Lata Ji was an institution of music herself, '' he added.

Veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar passed away at the age of 92 on Sunday.

She was admitted to a city hospital in early January this year after she tested positive for COVID-19 and was also diagnosed with penumonia.

She was admitted to the ICU with mild symptoms and was recovering slowly.

After being several days in hospital she was discharged and now again her health worsened and had been put on a ventilator.

Lata Mangeshkar was one of the prominent ladies of Bollywood. She was a famous music director, an Indian playback singer and also a producer. She was regarded as a Queen of Melody and Nightingale of India.

She had sung in many languages such as Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, and many other regional languages. She was such a great personality of our time that she had been honoured with many awards such as National Film Awards, Padma Bhusan (1969), Maharashtra Bhusan (1997), Bharat Ratna (2001) and many more.

Her main Genre was Classical, Folk, Bhajans, Bengali Music, Ghazals.
