Agartala: The schools and colleges in Tripura will remain closed for the time being.
The director of higher education Saju Vaheed in a notification on Tuesday as the health department did not give clearance in the state in view of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
The decision for reopening the schools and colleges in Tripura has been postponed as of now.
The state government has conducted a high-level meeting with officials from the education department on November 26 regarding the reopening of schools.
The officials had decided that the schools will be reopened for classes 10 and 12 from December 1
According to the official notice issued by the health department, "In view of not receiving a positive response from the Health and Family Welfare Department, Tripura, regarding the re-opening of College/Institution, it has been decided to cancel the physical attendance of the students."
During this time, online classes will be conducted for the students. The educational institutes in Tripura have remained closed since March and have been conducted online classes for the students.
It has been shut down for nearly nine months due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and the extension of the nationwide lockdown. The educational institutes were set to reopen on December 1 but the health department decided against it.
On the contrary, the Assam government has decided to reopen schools for all classes from January 1, 2021. Following the assessment of the reopening of schools from Class 6 to Class 12 in the previous month and the COVID-19 situation in the state, the government has decided to reopen elementary schools as well in Assam from January 1, 2021.
The hostels of colleges and universities for final year students and residential students of classes 10 to 12 would also be permitted to reopen from December 15 but in a limited capacity.
SOPs for reopening of classes for students of Nursery to class 6 would be released soon.
