NORTH TRIPURA: In a recent operation carried out by the Tripura Police, a person dealing in the production and sale of illicit liquor was arrested and proper legal action has been initiated against him.

The miscreant identified as Ranjit Nath was arrested by a team from the Kadamtala Police Station from the locality near the Kadamtala Market of the North Tripura District. The operation was carried out on Monday.

Based on several complaints regarding the sale of illegal country liquor, the police team raided the market area on Monday. The police team was able to arrest Ranjit Nath as well as to seize a sizeable quantity of country liquor.

According to sources, Ranjit Nath is a resident of the Bagan Village under the Kadamtala Police Station. He was allegedly selling Indian Made Foreign Liquor as well as country liquor from his scooter in the market area for many years.

It can be noted that the police were trying to get hold of him for a long time, but he was successful in evading arrest in the past. Finally, on Monday night, the police team was successful in nabbing this miscreant.

North Tripura police also seized the scooter bearing registration number TR 05 D 6437 used for these illegal activities.

Previously an operation carried out by Itakhula Police in Assam led to the seizure of a large amount of illegal liquor. Following the inputs from their sources, the team from the Itakhula police station was able to confiscate a large consignment of liquor that was being smuggled into Assam from neighbouring Arunachal Pradesh. The consignment consisted of a total 43 cartons of different brands of alcohol and was captured from a Maruti Suzuki Omni bearing the registration number AS 12 H 1648.
