Tripura Lok Janashakti Party chief Rupam Kar arrested over forgery case

A case was registered against Rupam Kar following which the State Crime branch raided his house and seized objectionable elements like forged public documents.

AGARTALA: The president of the Tripura unit of Lok Janashakti Party (LJP), Rupam Kar was arrested by the crime branch on Tuesday. Kar was accused of duping people by providing them with forged documents in lieu of money. As per reports, a case was registered against Kar following which the state crime branch raided his house and seized objectionable elements like forged public documents and government officers rubber stamp, computer and printer.

According to officials, the gadgets were used to create fake documents. Police officials are conducting further investigations as they suspect a huge racket behind the forgery. Kar has been booked under Section 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (dishonestly using a forged document as genuine) of the Indian Penal Code. The incident came to light when a person identified as Tapan Das seeking permission to open a foreign liquor shop submitted his documents at the West District Magistrate Office. However, Tapan's documents were found to be fake. Accordingly, a case was registered by Sabyasachi Singh, Superintendent of Excise Department.

Based on the complaint and inputs from Singh, a team of police officials of the state crime branch raided the house of Kar on Tuesday. An investigation was carried out that revealed the LJP chief gave Tapan Das forged documents in lieu of money. The LJP leader was arrested by a Crime Branch team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Ajay Kumar Das along with two other officials, Benu Lal Kar and Ashish Sarkar.

He had allegedly issued forged certificates for foreign-liquor licences, petrol pump allotments, job-offer letters etc. by cheating the public and collecting huge amount of money. He allegedly duped people by promising them government benefits and jobs to aspirants by assuring them of employment in the IOC (Indian Oil Corporation) and also the ONGC.
