AGARTALA: In a significant operation on Sunday night, Tripura Police made a major drug bust, seizing a substantial quantity of ganja weighing 207 kilograms from the Churaibari Naka Point, situated at the Assam-Tripura border.
This successful operation was initiated following actionable intelligence inputs received by law enforcement agencies. Under the vigilant supervision of Churaibari Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Samresh Das, a well-executed raid was conducted at Naka Point. The police team intercepted a 12-wheeler truck, bearing the registration number WB23 E 9879, which had been suspected of carrying illicit substances.
During the meticulously executed raid, law enforcement officials made a shocking discovery. They found 40 packets containing a staggering 207 kilograms of ganja concealed within a secret chamber ingeniously built into the truck. The estimated market value of the confiscated ganja is believed to be a substantial Rs. 31 lakh.
Meanwhile, the driver of the truck, identified as Kisan Ali and hailing from West Bengal, was swiftly apprehended in connection with the seizure. A case has been registered against him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
The North Tripura District Police, in an official statement, reported, "Based on a confidential tip received this evening, a 12-wheeler truck was detained at the Churaibari Police Station checkpoint. A thorough search uncovered a total of 40 packets, approximately weighing 207 kilograms, of semi-dry Cannabis meticulously concealed in a secret chamber within the truck."
The statement continued, "Contraband substances were swiftly seized, and the driver was placed under arrest. A case has been registered under the NDPS Act, and a comprehensive investigation is currently underway to ascertain both the forward and backward linkages of this illicit operation."
