AGARTALA : In a shocking episode on Tuesday, the residence of former Chief Minister of Tripura and BJP Rajya Sabha MP, Biplab Deb, was set on fire by anonymous miscreants. 

Reportedly, the criminals belonged from the CPI (M). The gang destroyed the house, broke several windows and later set the house on fire. 

A police complaint has been lodged and investigation has been initiated by the department. Along with the house, vehicles were also destroyed by the goons. 

Notably, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alleged the hand of CPIM behind this incident. As per reports, Deb and his entire family was engaged in the yearly rituals of his father, Hirudhan Deb's death anniversary. 

During the time of the incident, the residence was empty. Hence, no causalities has been reported. The scenario occurred when few priest arrived at Deb's residence in Rajdhanagar of Jamjuri, in Tripura. They all were present there to express condolences and look after the preparations of the death anniversary of Biplab Deb's father on 4th of January, Wednesday. 

The notorious goons attacked on the priests as well and simultaneously destroyed their vehicles. 

Jitendra Kaushik, one of the victims whose vehicle was damaged stated that he had come to Deb's house to see if the preparations were going on smoothly for the 'shradhh' on Wednesday. 

The miscreants started attacking people and their vehicle. It worth mentioning that, the goons were yelling 'either CPIM or nobody' while creating the violence. 

However, the locals saved the pujaris from the violent attack but the miscreants managed to escape the situation. The goons also destroyed a few shops prior to their escape when the local people tried to restrain them. 

A mass protest was carried on soon after the incident took place, creating a tense environment. As soon as receiving the information, Sub Divisional Police Officer Nirupama Debbarma and Additional Superintendent of Police Debanjana Roy rushed to the place and launched an investigation.

Following the attack, Biplab Deb commented that rival political parties are envious of the development in the state and are resorting to such dastardly means.
