CHURAIBARI: Yet another success for Tripura Police as they were able to capture a sizeable consignment of narcotics from a truck. A person was also arrested in relation to this incident.

Acting based on specific information, a team from the Churaibari Police Station undertook a naka checking on Wednesday. During this checking, a large consignment of contraband ganja was found concealed in the cabin of the truck. A total of 337 kilos of ganja was found concealed in a total of 62 packets which were kept in a hidden cabin of the truck.

The seized truck had the registration number WB 73 D 5911. It was on its way from Silchar in West Bengal to Agartala in Tripura when it was apprehended in Churaibari. One person was also arrested by the police in this regard. He was identified as 29 years old Zakir Hussain son of Samed Ali from Guwahati in Assam. The police have registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 against the accused.

The superintendent of police of the district, Bhanupada Chakraborty mentioned that the estimated value of the seized consignment is Rs 50 Lakhs.

Previously the Superintendent of Police, Bhanupada Chakraborty, Officer in charge of Churaibari Police Station Harendra Devbarma carried out a check in the region. The team was able to recover an estimated 250 kilos of dry ganja kept in 50 packets which were hidden in the vehicle. The twelve-wheeler truck carrying this consignment of narcotics is said to have borne registration number TR 01 Z1945. The driver was apprehended and the name of the 30-year-old was revealed to be Abdul Rahman, belonging to the Udaipur region which falls under the Rajdhanagar Kakrabar Region of the Gomtu district of the state.
