AGARTALA: In a significant operation led by the Churaibari police station in North Tripura district, law enforcement authorities have successfully seized a substantial haul of heroin valued at Rs 40 lakh. This operation unfolded along the route from Assam to Tripura and resulted in the apprehension of a notorious heroin smuggler.

The individual taken into custody has been identified as Billal Uddin, a 30-year-old resident of Ward No. 3 of Paschim Chandrapur Gram Panchayat, under Dharmanagar police station.

According to Bhanupada Chakraborty, the Superintendent of Police of North Tripura District, the operation transpired on Wednesday night when a Yamaha company motorcycle bearing the registration number TR05A-5803 crossed the Assam border into Tripura.

Upon a meticulous examination of the motorcycle, law enforcement officers discovered five packets of heroin concealed ingeniously inside soapboxes. Additionally, several smaller bags containing the illicit substance were also found. Billal Uddin, who not only operated the motorcycle but was also allegedly involved in smuggling heroin, was promptly apprehended.

Superintendent Chakraborty revealed that the total weight of the confiscated heroin is estimated to be approximately 60 grams, with an approximate international black market value of Rs 40 lakh.

At present, Billal Uddin, the accused, remains in the custody of the Churaibari police station, where ongoing interrogations are taking place. It has been confirmed that the arrested individual will be presented before the district court on Thursday for further legal proceedings.

This significant drug bust underscores the relentless efforts of law enforcement agencies in combating the illegal drug trade, enhancing public safety, and upholding the rule of law in the region.

Meanwhile, West Siang district police in Arunachal Pradesh arrested two drug peddlers and seized 10.54 gram heroin worth over Rs 5 lakh from their possession, police said here on Tuesday. Based on information on September 17 about two persons transporting contraband substances from Likabali in Lower Siang district to Aalo in West Siang district, the police constituted a team with Aalo police station officer in-charge Duto Bagra, West Siang Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhimanyu Poswal said.
