Tripura: Rs 81 Crore Allocated for 274 Solar Micro Grids

AGARTALA: In a significant move towards sustainable energy and rural electrification, the central government has approved a budget of Rs 81 crore for the establishment of 274 solar micro grids in the state of Tripura. This initiative aims to illuminate more than 9000 households in the remote and tribal regions of Dhalai, Unakoti, and South, West, and North Tripura districts.

The funding, sanctioned by the Ministry of Development of Northeast Region (DoNER), reflects the government's commitment to harnessing non-conventional sources for power generation. The announcement, made on Thursday (January 04), heralds a new era of clean and renewable energy in the northeastern state.

Each of the 274 solar micro grids will be strategically placed in tribal hamlets, catering to the unique energy needs of these areas. The installed capacity of each micro grid will vary, ranging from 2 KW to 25 KW. This flexibility ensures that the power generation aligns with the specific population and energy consumption requirements of the respective regions.

The decision to focus on solar micro grids underscores the government's dedication to sustainable development and addresses the challenge of electrifying remote and inaccessible areas. By choosing solar power, the initiative not only promotes environmentally friendly practices but also contributes to reducing dependence on traditional sources of energy.

The targeted districts, Dhalai, Unakoti, and South, West, and North Tripura, represent areas with limited access to conventional power sources. The introduction of solar micro grids will not only brighten homes but also empower local communities by providing a reliable and sustainable source of electricity.

This strategic investment aligns with the broader national goal of achieving energy security and promoting clean energy solutions. The Ministry of Development of Northeast Region's support underscores the significance of this project in enhancing the overall infrastructure and quality of life in Tripura.

As the solar micro grids come online, they are expected to have a transformative impact on the lives of thousands, ushering in a brighter, cleaner, and more sustainable future for the people of Tripura.
