Agartala: In a landmark achievement, Tripura Tea fetched the highest ever price of Rs 201 per/kg in the Kolkata auction centre. Santosh Saha, Chairman of Tripura Tea Development Corporation expressed satisfaction over the achievement and said it is the prize for maintaining high quality and the sincerity of the garden management and the workers.
Recently the corporation sent specially nurtured 71-kg of tea on experimental basis and it came out with great success. “We will pursue this endeavour of maintaining quality and expecting that Tripureswari Tea will leave its mark shortly in the larger global market”, said Saha who took over charge only one year ago.
The highest price Tripura Tea fetched before Saha took over was Rs 146 per kg and it rose to Rs 177 per kg in last July’s auction. Now it has crossed the Rs 200-barrier. Earlier, Tripura Tea was hardly known in the outside market and it used to be sold under various other banners until the new management introduced a logo – Tripureswari Tea.
TTDC also took an initiative to increase production of tea and sell it through fair price shops at a reasonable price which drew huge response from the consumers and now, the TTDC is finding it difficult to meet demand.
Saha said that earlier TTDC had an annual production of 1.53 lakh kg and it rose to 2.93 lakh kg last year and fixed a target of 4.5 lakh kg this year. He is confident of achieving the target as the corporation has already crossed the last year’s production and there are another 76 days before the seasonal closing of production on December 17.
