AGARTALA : After the atrocities on STGT graduate protesters by the Tripura police, Trinamool Congress in Tripura submitted memorandum to the Chairman of Tripura Human Rights Commission. The TMC in Tripura has demanded investigation regarding the violation of the human rights of the protestors.

There have been series of cases where protesters and supporters of the opposition party are harassed by the police ever since BJP rule started in 2018. Rajib Banerjee, the in-charge of TMC in Tripura stated that, the BJP workers roam around with arms and pistols and harasses the public.

These activities are carried out in the presence of cops. However, the police instead of filing complaints against them, registers case against the normal people, and enjoys parties with the criminals.

Pijush Kanti Biswas, party president and senior advocate of TMC along with Sushmita Devi, the Rajya Sabha MP, visited the chairman of Tripura Human Right Commission (THRC) on Wednesday. The leader put forward a memorandum describing the unjust incident in details.

The leaders slammed the ruling party for resorting to lathi charge and injuring innocent protesters. In the memorandum, they described about the use of excessive power which was unwarranted. Biswas mentioned that the government has failed to keep the promise of providing employment to Selection Test for Graduate Teacher (STGT) graduates.

The process of recruitment and appointment should have been completed within six months, out of which four months are over. The aspirants out of helplessness resorted to a peaceful protest in front of the office of the Education Minister.

The gathering was not crowded and unarmed. However, the police went all violent against them violating the human rights. The people were beaten mercilessly for demanding what they deserve, stated Biswas. In the memorandum, the leaders highlighted article 19 (1) (a) 19 (1) (b) of the constitution that allows people to protest 'peacefully'.

The TMC officials demanded immediate action against the Tripura police, to avoid such instances from becoming the new normal.
