Agartala: Garia Puja, the biggest festival of the tribals in Tripura, is going to be celebrated like previous years at Noabari under Killa block and Kamala under Ampi block, spokesperson of Jamatia Hoda Ratan Sadhan Jamatia said in a press conference on Thursday at the Auditorium of ICAT, Udaipur.

All the tribal communities worship Baba Garia but the Jamatia Hoda, the apex body of the Jamatia community, is the custodian of the two idols. Apart from offering puja, a village to village procession with the idols is a major attraction of this festival where a large number of people participate.

Like previous years, this year too, the week-long Baba Garia Puja is going to start on the auspicious occasion of Chaitra Songkranti on Sunday with offerings in various rivers of the State.

Two Akras of the Jamatia Hoda, heads of the community, Pulindra Kumar Jamatia and Padma Leela Jamatia will carry out the entire proceedings. The Akras will also carry out traditional Ganga Puja on River Kasam beginning from nine in the morning on March 18 to mark the valediction of Garia Puja 2020.

The stakeholders of Jamtai Hoda urged all sections of the people to extend their wholehearted support with an aim to make this Garia Puja a grand success.
