Agartala: A proposal has been sent by the Tripura University to the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) and the University Grants Commission (UGC) for inducting diploma courses in Japanese, Korean, Nepali and Manipuri languages.
Tripura University is keen on starting the diploma courses in these four languages from the next academic session as a result of which it has urged the MHRD and the UGC to approve their proposal as soon as possible.
The Central University has stated that it is pondering over the introduction of the courses in these languages as a result of a growing trend among students in India to learn foreign languages.
These diploma courses will be held for a duration of one year.
In a bid to further diversify its portfolio, the University is also planning to introduce subjects like National Security Studies, Social Work and Manipuri dance in its post-graduate programmes.
They have said that the proposed courses and respective departments will start in a planned manner.
Located in the capital city of Agartala, Tripura University became a central university only in 2007.
Last year, amidst the outbreak of the Coronavirus pandemic, Maharaja Bir Bikram University in Tripura introduced four evening diploma courses on Goods and Services Tax(GST), Retail and Sales Management, Insurance Risk Management and a course on the Spanish language.
It is always a boon to know a foreign language as it opens up a range of employment opportunities across various sectors not only in India but also abroad.
One could secure a job as a translator, interpreter among others if he/she decides to pursue a career in this field. This would lead to unemployment getting reduced.
