"Till now, films from 48 countries have been enlisted. Our own Jahnu Barua's upcoming film 'Bhoga Khirikee' will be the inaugural film of the festival," Jyoti Chitraban Chairman Pabitra Margherita said in a press conference held recently. During the event, films from Spain, France, Argentina, Poland, Hungary, Italy, Cambodia, Croatia, Latvia, Czech Republic, Israel, Greece, Russia, Turkey, Philippines, Iran, Vietnam, Bangladesh, Qatar, Indonesia, Portugal, Venezuela, Sri Lanka and Mexico will also be shown, he added.
GIFF Festival Director Monita Borgohain informed that this year, ASEAN will be the focus region instead of the usual practice of having a focus country.
"We will have around 16 films from 10 countries of the ASEAN region. GIFF Artistic Director Rahul Jain is talking to the embassies of these countries. This is done in line with the Act East Policy of the government," she added.
