Unabated deforestation continues at Jeypore rainforest
More than half of Earth's rain forests have already been lost due to the human demand for wood and arable land.
Large-scale deforestation in the Jeypore Rainforest and many other areas of the sanctuary has led to the loss of its identity due to some unscrupulous people's involvement.
Many timber smugglers have been involved in the destruction of valuable trees like Holong, Mekai, Titachapa, and Chagun in the sanctuary. Many well-known people are allegedly involved in this by managing some officers and staff from the highest level to the lowest level of the Forest department.
Conservation activist Mridupaban Phukan alleged that the negligence of the forest department towards the Jeypore rainforest is the main cause of unabated deforestation of the rainforest."
Speaking to the Sentinel conservation activist Mridupaban Phukan said, "Many valuable trees have been cut by illegal traders in Arunachal Border area continuously. The forest department of Assam has allegedly failed to stand up to the expectations of the people of the State. Valuable trees like Holong, Mekai, Titachapa, and Chagun cut down. If the current deforestation continues, the Jeypore rainforest will totally destroy. The forest range officer of Jeypore range is totally unaware of these ongoing illegal activities. The negligence of the forest department towards the Jeypore rainforest is the main cause of unabated deforestation of the rainforest."
