GUWAHATI: Assam Athletics Association (AAA) will organize an Invitation Inter District Prize Money Athletics Championship on October 2. The main aim to organize this tournament is to bring the athletes of the state into the competition after COVID-19 break.

Adressing a media conference the secretary of the Assam Athletics Association Lakhya Konwar said, "Although the athletes have started their training after post COVID-19 break but they are yet to take part in any competition which is very necessary. So we have decided to organize the tournament by following all COVID-19 protocol."

The one-day meet will be held at the Judges ground and Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal will inaugurate the competition. There would be altogether five events for both boys and girls. These are 100mts, 200mts, 400mts, high jump and long jump. The organizer also planned to host a couple of events for para athletes.

Lakhya added: "There would be cash award for the winners of all events. Gold medal winner will collect Rs 10,000 while silver and bronze medal winners would be awarded Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. All the participants along with coaches and officials have to submit COVID-19 negative certificate before the start of the competition."

The media briefing was also attended by the secretary of the Assam Athletics Association Ashoke Bharali and Dharma Kanta Mili, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare.
