All Assam Youth Inter-District Basketball Championship gives rise to Youth ID Basketball in Guwahati

GUWAHATI: All Assam Youth Inter District Basketball Championshipgot under way at the RG Baruah Sports Complex in the city on Wednesday. Altogether 40 teams (26 boys and 14 girls) are taking part in the competition.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Tourism Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah as the chief guest. In a brief speech Mallabaruah expressed hope that the new office bearers of the Assam Basketball Association will do their best to promote the game in the State. Among other present in the opening ceremony were Pallab Lochan Das, MP and president of the Assam Basketball Association, Queen Oja, MP, Pabitra Margherita, MP, Gitartha Goswami, Member Secretary, SLAC for Student and Youth Welfare and Pradip Timung, Director, Sports and Youth Welfare.

Pallab Lochan Das said that altogether 25 players will be selected from this competition and the association will arrange special training for them. On the other hand Pabitra Margherita announced plans to build a basketball court from the MP fund for Assam Basketball Association. The competition is jointly organized by the Assam Basketball Association and SLAC for Student and Youth Welfare.
