New Delhi: On the first day of the Andalucia Golf Masters on Friday, Gaganjeet Bhullar ended round 1 tied for 11th place, with Frenchman Victor Perez on top of the leaderboard with a bogey free round of 65 (-6). Defending champion Sergio Garcia ended the day tied for second with a score of 66 (-5). In the 3,000,000 Pound prize money tournament, Bhullar picked up from his good form at the BMW International Open and came up with a steady (-3) under par round and a score of 68, ending with five birdies on the 4th, 6th, 10th, 12th and 17th holes but two bogeys on the 8th and 18th halted his progress to a better finish.
Among other Indians, S.S.P Chawrasia and Shiv Kapur ended the round tied 111th, finishing with scores of 3 over par. Shubhankar Sharma was also not at his best, ending T-153 with a score of 8 over par i.e. 79.
The Valderrama course, regarded as one of the toughest courses on the European tour, saw other top golfers performing below par as well. BMW International Open winner Andrea Pavan ended the day at T-91 with a score of 2 over par and five-time European tour winner Matthew Fitzpatrick had an even worse day and ended round 1 at T-111.
