GUWAHATI: Assam Badminton Association (ABA) had given advice to its players to work on their fitness at home during the 21-day lockdown period.
The association felt, there is no guarantee that normalcy would return after 21-day lockdown period and so it is essential to work on fitness every day during the stay at home otherwise it can make a negative impact on their performance as sitting idle means it would take more time to gain full fitness.
Talking to The Sentinel the secretary of the Assam Badminton Association Omar Rashid said, “We are very much concern about the fitness of the players. The lockdown is a boom for students who can read at home but a bane for the players as it can make them lethargic by sitting idle. So we have advised the players to do certain basic exercise which is possible at home without any equipment.”
Elaborating the types of exercise that ABA advised to the players Rashid said, “Look, stair work out is the easiest one. Scale a flight of stairs and it will crank up your heart rate and fat-burn rate. Skipping is the other easy exercise which one can do at home. On the other hand shuttlers can also do wall practice with shuttle. It’s a drill where a player should stand in front of the wall and continuously hit the shuttle on the wall. These are the exercises which we advised to the players to do.”
It may be mentioned here that Assam Amateur Boxing Association also took the similar steps to keep fit their boxers during the lock down period.
