GUWAHATI: Both are very promising and are capable of improving their performance with the progress of time, said Partha Pratim Majumder, the coach of new stars of Indian swimming Shivangi Sarma and Astha Choudhury.
For several years both the swimmers along with Bikram Changmai are the trainees of Glenmark Aquatic Foundation in Delhi and Majumder, the head coach of the organization, is closely monitoring their performance.
Talking to The Sentinel at the Zakir Hussain Aquatic complex this evening Majumder said, "Our target is to produce swimmers for Asian Games, Olympics and other major international events and we are moving ahead with long term plans. Although still many miles to go, it is nice to see that both Shivangi and Astha have started to perform at the right time."
He also added: "Assam is coming up in a very big way in the national level. Last a few years the swimmers from this state have been consistently doing well and I hope it will continue in the coming days also."
Commenting on her new national record Shivangi, who finished the competition with four medals, said, "I participated in the competition with an aim to improve my timing and it is nice to see that I created a new national record today. The entire credit of this performance should go to my coach."
Astha in a brief reaction said, " I was aiming for the record and it's nice to see that I have created it in front of my home crowd. I have participated in the competition with some specific target and I admit my performance was as per the expectation."
It may be mentioned here that Astha collected two gold medals and a silver from the pool in this competition. Bikram Changmai finished with one silver and two bronze.
