GUWAHATI: Assam maintained their good show in the 2nd North East Olympic Games and stayed top in the medal tally on Day III in Shillong today. Assam altogether collected 37 medals which included 17 gold, 11 silver and 9 bronze. Manipur are at the second spot with 11 gold, 12 silver and 13 bronze. Arunachal Pradesh, who collected 17 medals (7-6-4), are at the third spot.

Assam swimmers once again displayed good performance in the competition today. Altogether 21 medals were decided in the swimming pool on Saturday and Assam bagged 11 of them which included 6 gold, 3 silver and 2 bronze. Among the six gold two came in the men and women 4X50 medley relay. Other gold medals were won by Anshuman Kashyap (100m breast stroke, men), Disha Gogoi (100m breast stroke, women), Darshita Baruah (50m back stroke, women) and Jananjoy Jyoti Hazarika (100m butter fly, men). Adriza Rani Chetia (100m breast stroke, women), Jananjoy Jyoti Hazarika (50m back stroke, men) and Aditya Thapa (100m butter fly, men) collected silver. Bronze medals were won by Aditya Thapa (50m back stroke, men) and Krishnali Doley (50m back stroke, women).

In the archery Assam won two gold medals through Sonali Basumatari (recurve) and Amaina Basumatary (compound). Promila Daimary (recurve, over all) and Rita Basumatary (over all Indian round) collected bronze medals in the championship.

In football, the Assam women's team suffered a second defeat and this time against Sikkim. Assam lost the tie 4-1 via tie break. Assam made a good start in the game and were 1-0 lead through Ajuli Brahma during the lemon break. Sikkim returned the goal in the second half and it was scored by Simran Gurung.

Meghalaya won their first gold medal with Willbornson Wahlang winning the MTB Downhill Hardtail men's race.
